Homage to Monet

“Looks Kind of Like a Monet”
1998 • 30 x 40

In these two earlier works, I consciously attempted to emulate the feeling of a Monet (thus, the inclusion of water lilies in both pictures.), albeit in an amateurish fashion. The “Waterlillies” layout was taken from a black and white photograph of Monet’s garden in Giverny.

After attending a wonderful Impressionist exhibit in San Francisco in 2010, I could not help but notice the lily pond in front of the deYoung Museum. I wanted to combine the inspiration I felt from the visit with my own sytle to this water lilly canvas.
